In the blue and white party, disputes over the succession of the Miguel Hidalgo mayoralty have begun. The opposition believes Morena has lost strength at the local level and that the mayoralty could be regained without major difficulties. Mauricio Tabe, the current mayor of the district, has been recently reelected and is already building his political project for the elections of 2027 and 2030, intending to compete for the Head of Government.
Among the possible successors is legislator América Rangel, who has expressed her desire to run for mayor in 2027. Rangel has political backing as she is the sister of Diego Garrido, the deputy coordinator of the PAN in the Palace of Donceles, which gives her a certain advantage in the local political landscape. Her experience and knowledge of the district's daily affairs are highlighted in the opposition, which could favor her candidacy.
Another female figure seeking a place in the race for the Miguel Hidalgo mayoralty is Laura Álvarez, a benchmate of América Rangel and wife of Mauricio Tabe. Álvarez has gained confidence in recent years and is positioning herself as a possible contender for the position.
On the list of potential successors is also César Garrido, the current General Director of Government and Legal Affairs of the mayoralty. Tensions within the PAN are deepening, reflecting in the full Congress of CDMX, where figures like América Rangel have gained prominence for representing the conservative sectors of the party.
Although there are still no clear definitions, it is expected that in the 2027 elections, the Miguel Hidalgo district will be highly contested by various political figures who are already moving to obtain the nomination.
